Twilight Princess: Golden Bugs

In the southeastern side of Castle Town, you'll find a rather large house, right next to the fortune teller. This is Agitha's castle. If you go inside and speak to Agatha, she'll send you on a giant fetch quest for these things called "Golden Bugs". These guys are scattered throughout Hyrule, and as such, they're very hard to find. Fortunately, we're here to help. Before setting off on your quest, however, take note that this guide is made for the Wii version of Twilight Princess, so things may differ from the Gamecube edition. On the Gamecube, the entire game is mirrored, so the directions in this guide would be backwards for those playing on it. Keep that in mind, and read on.

Tips

If you don't want us to spoil the joys of finding these Golden Bugs for yourself, but still would like some help, here are some tips.

* Listen for the twinkling sound the Golden Bugs give off. This will give away their location.

* Typically, each Golden Bug pair are in close proximity with each other. If you find a male phasmid, for example, chances are the female is close by.

* When you bring the Golden Bugs to Agitha, make sure your wallet isn't full. If it is, you won't be able to reap the reward she oh so graciously bestows upon you.

* If a Golden Bug is out of your reach, use the Gale Boomerang or the Clawshot to pull it closer to you.

* Hunt at night. These bugs live up to their namesake and emit a faint golden glow. At night, this glow is very easy to spot, even from a distance.

Golden Ant

Male: Kakariko Graveyard: You'll find him by the northwestern tree.

Female: Kakariko Village: At the west side of town, you'll find an abandoned house. Enter this house and collect the Golden Bug you find there.

"Li'l ant, li'l ant, I might mistake you for a grain and put you in my cereal..."

Golden Mantis

Male: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): On the northern end of Lanyaru Bridge, on the left-hand side of the arch, you should see him. Use your clawshot or Gale Boomerang to get him in grabbing distance. If you don't see him at first, wait a moment, and soon, he'll fly into view.

Female: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): To the south of Lanyaru Bridge, just past the giant tree stump, you'll hear a faint twinkling sound. If you turn to the east and look up, you should see a Golden Mantis. Use your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to get her in grabbing distance, then pick her up.

"Li'l mantis, li'l mantis, if I had sickles like that, I could slice onions better..."

Golden Butterfly

Male: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): Start at the eastern Castle Town entrance, then head briefly to the southeast until you find a small patch of pink flowers. In this patch, you'll find your target Golden Bug.

Female: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): Warp to Castle Town, walk away from the castle for a bit until you find a cliff. Clawshot onto the vines you'll see there and climb up onto the cliff. Look around, and you should see a Golden Butterfly fluttering before you.

"Li'l butterfly, li'l butterfly, I want to be wrapped up in that powder, too..."

Golden Phasmid

Male: Hyrule Field (Eldin Province): At the south end of the Bridge of Eldin, look at the left side of the arch, and it should catch your eye. Use your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to bring it close to you, then grab it.

Female: Hyrule Field (Eldin Province): A little northwards of the Bridge of Eldin, you'll see a tunnel-like cliff. Clawshot up to it, then turn to the west and walk for a bit. You should soon hear the telltale faint twinkling sound of a Golden Bug. When you've spotted it, use either your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to grab it.

"Li'l phasmid, li'l phasmid, I want to tie your long antennae into bows..."

Golden Dayfly

Male: Gerudo Desert: At the southern end of Gerudo Desert, past some wooden fences (you can smash through them with a boar), you'll find this bug. Keep searching around the area until you hear the giveaway twinkling sound of a Golden Bug, at which point, you should attempt to get it in your sights and snag it.

Female: Gerudo Desert: Towards the southeast, you'll see a pillar with a chest atop it. Slightly north of this, you'll find trenches in the sand. The second trench you come across will play host to this Golden Bug.

"Li'l dayfly, li'l dayfly, I want to take your colorful tail and make the loveliest braid ever..."

Golden Stag Beetle

Male: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): In this area, go south from the Zora's River. There, you'll find a tree with this bug either sitting on it or crawling around near it.

Female: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province) Stretching out above the Zora's River, you'll find a rocky overpass. Climb it until you come across a vacant, open space with a bombable rock off to the side. Here, you'll find the Golden Bug you're searching for. Get it in grabbing distance with either your Clawshot or Gale Boomerang, then snatch it.

"Li'l stag beetle, li'l stag beetle, your spiky pinchers are so sharp! They must feel so good..."

Golden Lady Bug

Male: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): To the west side of the area to the south of Castle Town. You'll see a large rock pillar jutting up from the ground with numerous Guay hovering over it. Listen for the telltale twinkling sound of a Golden Bug, and it's as good as found.

Female: Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): South from Castle Town, you'll come across a stone patio of sorts. To the southeastern side of it, you'll see a set of three trees. Sitting on the center tree will be the Golden Bug you're searching for.

"Li'l ladybug, li'l ladybug, if I was smaller, I would get on your back and we'd fly around..."

Golden Grasshopper

Male: Hyrule Field (Eldin Province): The location of both grasshoppers is very vague, to say the least. The male can be found near the north entrance to Kakariko Village, a little ways to the west.

Female: Hyrule Field (Eldin Province): Around the northeast corner of this area, you'll find her. Again, it's location is very vague, so you've really got to listen hard for that familiar faint twinkling sound.

"Li'l grasshopper, li'l grasshopper, I'd love to tickle your belly all day long..."

Golden Beetle

Male: Hyrule Field (Faron Province): Slightly southwest of the wooden bridge, you'll see this guy hanging out on a tree, just between two raised landmasses.

Female: Hyrule Field (Faron Province): On top of a raised landmass slightly south of the wooden bridge, you'll find a tree with this Golden Bug clinging onto it. Use either the Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to get it in range, then grab it.

"Li'l beetle, li'l beetle, I want to use that shiny shell as a pillow and fall asleep..."

Golden Pill Bug

Male: Kakariko Gorge: Just a bit off to the side of the south end of the wooden bridge. It should be really easy to spot, given how close it is to the main path.

Female: Kakariko Gorge: At the northwest corner of this area, you'll find this bug fluttering around a patch of grass.

"Li'l pill bug, li'l pill bug, I wish I was smaller so I could roll you around like a ball..."

Golden Snail

Male: Sacred Grove: Inside the southwest passageway near the entrance to the Temple of Time, you'll find it crawling on the wall. Use your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to grab him.

Female: Temple of Time Entrance: After going through the doorway to the Temple of Time from the Sacred Grove, turn to the west of the staircase and you should see this Golden BUg resting on a wall. Use either the Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to grab it.

"Li'l snail, li'l snail, just once I'd like to take a bath in that slime..."

Golden Dragonfly

Male: Zora's Domain: Across from the entrance to Snowpeak, juuuuuuust up a hill, you'll see him flitting around a patch of grass. From a distance, he may look like a Poe's soul, but don't let your eyes decieve you.

Female: Upper Zora's River: In front of the boat rental shop, you should see her drifting lazily over the Zora's River. Use your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to get her in grabbing distance, then snatch her up!

"Li'l dragonfly, li'l dragonfly, when you look at me with those great big eyes, I..."
