Twilight Princess Characters

Here are listed all of the characters in Twilight Princess. They are organized in order of importance and province.

Main Characters

Link

Link is first introduced as a rancher in Ordon Village. He appears to be around seventeen. He possesses the Triforce of Courage.

When King Bulblin and his minions enter the Ordon Spring and kidnap Colin and Ilia, Link frantically chases after them. This leads him to a huge wall of Twilight, and a Shadow Beast drags him into the Twilight Realm. Link is transformed into a wolf by the protection of the goddesses. When light returns to the Faron Province, Link is awakened as the Chosen Hero, finding himself wearing the green tunic worn by the Hero of Time.

Link's destiny is to save both the realms of Light and Twilight from evil. He aids Midna in collecting the Fused Shadows and missing Shards of the Mirror of Twilight. He is able to defeat Ganondorf and restore peace to the land.

Midna

Midna is Link's helper or partner throughout the game, despite the fact that she is very snarky and has a dark sense of humor toward everyone.

She is a descendant of the dark interlopers who were banished to the Twilight Realm by the goddesses. Midna was crowned Twilight Princess, but was turned into an imp by Zant when he took over the throne. Link meets Midna when he is imprisoned in Hyrule Castle as a wolf. Midna makes a deal with him - she'll help him get out of the twilight, but only if he helps her collect the Fused Shadows.

With Zant's appearance in the Lanayru Spring, Midna almost meets her death. Wolf Link takes her to Hyrule Castle, where Princess Zelda bestows upon her the power of the Triforce of Wisdom, saving her life and allowing her to freely roam the Light world without having to remain in Link's shadow. Midna is devastated when she sees the Mirror of Twilight broken as it is when she and Link find it in the desert. She asks Link to help her collect the three missing Shards. Once the Mirror is whole once again, Link and Midna enter the Twilight Realm. Link defeats Zant, and Midna, in a blind rage, impales Zant with her power. However, to her disappointment, the curse on her is not broken.

Midna and Link return to the Light Realm to face Ganondorf at Hyrule Castle. Midna uses the Fused Shadows to morph into a spider-like creature. She warps Link and Zelda to Hyrule Field for their safety. Midna is last seen beginning her assault on Ganondorf. It is first thought that Ganondorf had killed Midna, as he is seen crushing her helmet on the Field in front of Link and Zelda. However, after Ganondorf is defeated by Link and Zelda, it is revealed that Midna is alive and has been returned to her true form.

In the final cutscene of the game, Midna is seen returning to the Twilight Realm. One of her tears collides with the Mirror of Twilight, shattering it, since she was the true ruler of the Twilight.

Zelda

Zelda is the current matriarch of Hyrule until Zant attacks Hyrule Castle, forcing her to surrender to save her people. She is imprisoned in a chamber in the castle. Because she wields the Triforce of Wisdom, she does not become a spirit like the rest of her people. Zelda gives this power to Midna to save her life after Zant has attacked her.

She helps Link in the horseback battle against Ganondorf by firing Light Arrows granted to her by the Light Spirits.

Zant

Zant had been the next-in-line for the throne of the Twilight Realm when his lust for power and strong emotions made the Twili decide to crown Midna Twilight Princess instead. After gaining a mysterious and dangerous power to aid him, Zant usurped the Twilight Crown, and named himself king. This dangerous power is later known to be the spirit of Ganondorf, who was sealed in the Twilight Realm by the Sages.

Zant transformed Midna into an imp out of revenge. He also turned the Twili into Shadow Beasts and enslaved them. Zant led his Shadow Beast army into the world of light, and attacked Hyrule Castle. Princess Zelda was forced to surrender to save her people. The land became covered in twilight. Halfway through the game, after Link clears the Lakebed Temple, Zant appears and changes Link back into a wolf. Zant leaves Midna barely alive. Link escapes with Midna before Zant can do anything more.

When Link and Midna arrive in the Mirror Chamber in the desert, the Sages tell them that Zant has broken the Mirror of Twilight, although it has not been shattered. Once Link and Midna reassemble the Mirror, they meet Zant in the Palace of Twilight in the Twilight Realm. Midna impales Zant with her power, implying his death.

Ganondorf

Ganondorf had been banished to the Twilight Realm by the Sages, since he was unable to be killed because of his possession of the Triforce of Power.

He pretends to be a god and appears to Zant, offering him the power to get what he wants. However, Zant is blinded by his need for revenge, and willingly accepts this power without realizing that Ganondorf only meant to use Zant to escape the Twilight Realm.

After defeating Zant, Link and Midna return to the Light Realm to face Ganondorf at Hyrule Castle. Link fights Ganondorf's various forms, and in the final phase of the battle, Link stabs Ganondorf with the Master Sword. It is not known if Ganondorf is dead or alive after this.

Hero's Shade

The Hero's Shade had been a famed and talented swordsman of Hyrule. He takes the form of a golden wolf in the world of the living. He appears to be missing his right eye, while the left is a bright red color.

The Hero's Shade becomes Link's mentor for learning the ways of the sword throughout the game, eventually teaching Link all seven of the Hidden Skills. When Link comes across a Howling Stone, he can howl along with the tune in the wind as a wolf. The Hero's Shade will appear as the golden wolf somewhere in Hyrule for Link to find him. When Link is attacked in Hyrule Castle, Auru shoots some Lizalfos with a bazooka-type weapon that probably utilizes bombs.

Ashei

Ashei is a member of Telma's Resistance Group. She is the daughter of a former Knight of Hyrule. Instead of being taught the ways of how to act ladylike, Ashei was taught by her father how to fight with a sword. Ashei studies the Yeti tribe in the Snowpeak Mountains. She gives Link a sketch of Yeto holding a Reekfish. She uses a bow to shoot down enemies when Link needs help at Hyrule Castle.

Rusl

Rusl is a swordsman and protector of Ordon. He is the husband of Uli and father of Colin. Rusl is revealed to be a member of Telma's Resistance Group, and helps Link find the Temple of Time through the Sacred Grove. He saves Link's life at Hyrule Castle by summoning a hawk to retrieve an arrow fired at Link.

Shad

Shad is a scholar who studies the Oocca of the sky. He is part of Telma's Resistance Group. Once Link acquires the Ancient Sky Book from Impaz, Shad chants something in the language in front of the statue in the Sanctuary. Nothing appears to happen until Link notices that the Dominion Rod has regained power. Link uses the Rod to find the rest of the Sky Characters hidden across Hyrule and returns to Shad for him to read the completed Book. When Shad chants the completed text, he and Link gain access to the Sky Cannon, which is then repaired by Fyer.
